JNS: In a bid to strengthen cultural ties between India and Sri Lanka, 36 Sri Lankan students have been selected for scholarships to study Hindi in India. The scholarships, provided by the Government of India, cover academic fees and local accommodations for a nine-month course at the Kendriya Hindi Sansthan in Agra, starting this August.
Santosh Jha, the High Commissioner of India to Sri Lanka, met with the students before their departure.
During the meeting, he emphasized the significance of Hindi language and literature in reinforcing the deep-rooted cultural, linguistic, literary, and religious connections between the two nations.
Jha extended his best wishes to the students for their studies in India, highlighting that this year marks the largest group of Sri Lankan scholars selected under the “Propagation of Hindi Abroad” program.
Over the past 13 years, more than 170 students from Sri Lanka have benefited from this initiative, with this year’s cohort representing the highest number yet.
