5.3 Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Chamba, Himachal Pradesh

Himachal Pradesh: A 5.3 magnitude earthquake hit Chamba in Himachal Pradesh, along with the Kangra Valley, on Thursday evening.

The Meteorological Department reported that the earthquake, with a moderate intensity, struck at 9:34 PM. It measured 5.3 on the Richter scale and had a depth of 10 km. The epicenter was located at a latitude of 33.09 and a longitude of 76.59 in Chamba, Himachal Pradesh.

Fortunately, there have been no reports of casualties or damage to property from any part of the Kangra Valley so far.

The timing of the earthquake is significant, as it coincides with a devastating quake that occurred on the same day 119 years ago in 1905. That earthquake resulted in thousands of deaths and widespread destruction in Kangra.
