JNS I Jamshedpur: The Indian Institute of Metals (IIM), Jamshedpur chapter, hold a prestigious technical talk at Beldih Club, Bistupur, featuring international experts Professor Wolfgang Bleck, Chair of Ferrous Metallurgy at RWTH Aachen University, Germany, and Professor Dierk Raabe, Director of the Max Planck Institute for Iron Research, Düsseldorf, Germany on Sunday.
The event was attended by esteemed guests including Dr. Debashish Bhattacharjee, Vice President of Technology and R&D at Tata Steel, Dr. Sandip GhoshChawdhury, Director of CSIR-NML, Dr. Hans Fisher, Ex-CEO and MD of Tata Steel Europe, Dr. Soumitra Tarafder, Former Adviser Management and Chief Scientist at CSIR-NML, Dr. A. N. Bhagat, Immediate Past Chairperson of IIM Jsr Chapter, and numerous metallurgical experts from CSIR-NML, Tata Steel, and NIT Jamshedpur.
Professor Ashok Kumar, Chairperson of IIM Jamshedpur Chapter, delivered the welcome address, outlining the chapter’s objectives and activities. Professor Bleck shared his extensive experience in steel research, highlighting the future requirements of steel in sectors such as mobility, energy, and infrastructure. He also expressed concerns about the steel industry’s contribution to global CO2 emissions.
Professor Raabe’s lecture focused on sustainability in materials science, emphasizing the need for further research and development of new materials to meet environmental regulations and the requirements of renewable energy.
The event attracted over 100 professionals from CSIR-NML, Tata Steel, faculty and students from NIT Jamshedpur, and other enthusiasts from the metallurgical industry. A lively question and answer session followed each talk, demonstrating the audience’s enthusiasm and engagement.
Dr. Gopi Kishore Mandal, Secretary of IIM Jamshedpur Chapter, concluded the program with a vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to Professor Bleck and Prof. Raabe for sharing their expertise. Special thanks were also extended to Dr. Debashish Bhattacharjee, Dr. Sandip GhoshChawdhury, Dr. Chiradeep Ghosh, Professor Ashok Kumar, and Dr. Biraj Kr Sahoo for their support in organizing the event.
