Gaya, Bihar: A severe outbreak of diarrhea has struck Majhauli village in Bodhgaya, resulting in the deaths of three individuals, including two children, and leaving over 50 others seriously ill. The situation has led to widespread panic among residents during the festive season.

Dr. Manoj Kumar, in-charge of the Bodhgaya Community Health Center, confirmed the outbreak, stating that a medical team has been dispatched to the affected village to provide treatment and assess the situation. “We received reports of the outbreak, and our team is actively working to treat those affected,” he said.

The deceased include a 7-year-old girl named Gauri, a 10-year-old boy named Mithun Kumar, and the wife of villager Naresh Yadav. Local residents have been experiencing severe symptoms, including diarrhea and vomiting. Initially, many sought treatment at nearby private clinics, but the alarming rise in cases prompted them to contact the health center for assistance.

Ambika Yadav, a village resident, described the atmosphere in Majhauli, stating, “Silence has spread in the village. People are afraid to even go outside.” Residents speculate that the outbreak began after a feast held at a local home, after which the health of many began to deteriorate, first affecting children and later adults.

Dr. Kumar noted that patients are being referred to hospitals in Gaya for more comprehensive care. “We are also investigating the cause of the outbreak. Those in serious condition are being admitted to the hospital,” he added.

Civil Surgeon Dr. Prabhat Kumar reassured the community, saying, “As soon as we received information about the outbreak, the medical team was instructed to respond quickly. They are now treating patients in the village and working to control the situation.”

Residents are receiving treatment at various facilities, including Bodhgaya Hospital and nearby medical centers. The rapid escalation of cases has left the community in distress, with officials urging residents to remain cautious and seek medical help promptly.

The health department continues to monitor the situation closely and is committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of the villagers.
