Jamshedpur: In a major step toward advancing sustainable technology, the National Metallurgical Laboratory (CSIR-NML) in Jamshedpur has transferred its advanced waste printed circuit board (PCB) recycling technology to Novasensa Pvt. Ltd., New Delhi.
The formal transfer took place on November 21, 2024, supporting India’s growing efforts in e-waste management and promoting a circular economy.
This collaboration, led by Novasensa’s CEO Aseem Trivedi, will focus on recovering valuable metals like gold, copper, and aluminum from discarded PCBs, a critical component of electronic waste.
The zero-waste facility will help reduce the environmental impact of e-waste by offering a sustainable recycling solution.
CSIR-NML Director Dr. Sandip Ghosh Chowdhury expressed optimism, saying, “We aim to continue transferring indigenous technologies to contribute to an e-waste-free India.” The technology, developed by CSIR-NML, involves a series of processes, including mechanical pre-treatment, leaching, solvent extraction, and electro-winning, to recover metals with purity levels exceeding 99.99%.
Trivedi emphasized the potential of the technology to drive environmental sustainability, stating, “We aim to contribute to a pollution-free society and conserve natural resources for future generations.”
This technology transfer is a significant milestone in India’s efforts to address the growing e-waste challenge, offering an eco-friendly solution that can be scaled to small industries, creating new job opportunities while preserving the environment.
