BIT Mesra Hosts Two-Day Workshop on Pharmaceutical Cocrystallization

 

Ranchi: Birla Institute of Technology (BIT), Mesra, marked the beginning of its two-day workshop on “Pharmaceutical Cocrystallization for Tailoring Physicochemical Properties,” organized by the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Technology. The workshop, conducting under the SSR Policy of the SERB-CRG Project, saw strong participation from the academic community, with 15 researchers and 50 attendees taking part in the hands-on training initiative.

Sponsored by the SERB-CRG Project titled “Mitigation of Poor Physical and Chemical Properties of SGLT2 Inhibitor by Drug-Drug Cocrystallization with DPP4 Inhibitor and Comparative Pharmacokinetic Study with Their Respective Co-administered Drug Products,” the event focused on advancing pharmaceutical research and innovation.

The inaugural session featured Dr. Ashoke Sharon, Dean of Faculty Affairs at BIT Mesra, as the Chief Guest. In his address, Dr. Sharon highlighted the significance of such workshops in empowering researchers and fostering innovation in pharmaceutical sciences. He emphasized the long-term advantages for participants in furthering their scientific careers through exposure to cutting-edge methodologies.

Dr. Papiya Mitra Mazumder, the Chairperson of the Workshop, delivered an inspiring welcome message, encouraging the attendees to actively engage in the sessions and absorb the knowledge shared over the course of the workshop. Dr. Animesh Ghosh, the Principal Coordinator, provided an overview of the program’s schedule and objectives, setting the tone for the sessions ahead.

The workshop aims to deepen participants’ understanding of crystal engineering and its critical applications in the pharmaceutical industry. It features sessions on emerging trends, data acquisition, and advanced characterization techniques such as PXRD, DSC, and TGA. Day One included interactive discussions and practical demonstrations, offering a comprehensive learning experience for attendees. Day Two will feature more interactive sessions, culminating in a Valedictory ceremony and certificate distribution.
