Gaya: Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has inaugurated the construction of 275 playgrounds across 237 panchayats in 24 blocks of Gaya district under the MNREGA scheme. The ₹2738.26 lakh project is set to create 122,829 man-days of employment.
The playgrounds will include facilities for basketball, volleyball, badminton, running tracks, and other sports, benefiting local youth and promoting physical activity. The project features three types of fields: 85 larger grounds (4 acres), 115 medium-sized (1-1.5 acres), and 78 smaller fields (under 1 acre).
CM Kumar praised the Mahatma Gandhi Sports Stadium model and expressed plans to replicate it statewide. He emphasized that the new stadiums will support youths preparing for army and police recruitment and foster a sports culture in rural areas, while also creating employment opportunities. The initiative is part of the Rural Development Department’s effort to enhance sports infrastructure and provide job opportunities under MNREGA.
