Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday accused the Border Security Force (BSF) of enabling infiltration from Bangladesh, claiming it was part of a “nefarious blueprint” by the Centre to destabilize the state.
During an administrative meeting, Banerjee alleged that the BSF was facilitating illegal entry into Bengal and even torturing women, while denying the Trinamool Congress (TMC) responsibility for border security.
She vowed to instruct the state’s Director General of Police (DGP) to investigate suspected infiltration areas and threatened to write to the Centre about the issue. Banerjee also accused the BSF of allowing criminals to cross the border and return to Bangladesh without facing consequences.
Her remarks come amid heightened concerns over infiltration, fueled by Union Minister Amit Shah’s comments, and tensions between the TMC and BJP ahead of state elections. In response, Union Minister Giriraj Singh criticized Banerjee, accusing her of turning Bengal into a “gateway” for Bangladeshi infiltration.
The accusations come as the BSF tightens border security amid political turmoil in Bangladesh, which has led to an influx of refugees into India. Additionally, West Bengal police recently uncovered a fake passport racket involving illegal border crossings.
