Bokaro: A meeting was held today at Sudarshan Canteen, SAIL/Bokaro Steel Plant, by the contract labour cell of the Coke-Oven and Coke Chemicals Department, affiliated with Hind Mazdoor Sabha and Krantikari Ispat Mazdoor Sangh. The meeting aimed to address the ongoing issues faced by contract workers at the plant.
General Secretary and NJCS Member, Rajendra Singh, strongly condemned the management of Bokaro Steel Plant for exploiting contract workers.
He criticized the management for repeatedly ignoring the workers’ concerns, stating that those responsible for the exploitation face no consequences and, in some cases, are even rewarded with promotions. He further accused certain broker unions of siding with the management to weaken the workers’ movement.
Singh highlighted that the workers of today are well aware of their rights and are no longer willing to tolerate exploitation. He pointed out that efforts to divert attention with medical checkups had failed, with workers focusing on more pressing issues such as gratuity, night shift allowances, and grade promotions.
The meeting also marked the beginning of a determined struggle, with plans for a large protest at the Chief General Manager’s office on March 1, 2025. Singh urged workers to unite and continue fighting for their rights, declaring, “We will not rest until the exploitation ends.”
Other prominent speakers at the meeting included Shashi Bhushan, Jumman Khan, Hareram, Nagendra Kumar, Tuntun Singh, Amit Yadav, and Siraj Ahmed.
