The University of Tasmania (UTAS) is inviting applications for its Master of Public Health (MPH) program for 2025. This program aims to equip students with the skills needed to make a difference in public health, focusing on systemic thinking and the ability to navigate the relationship between research, policy, and practice. Students will gain the ability to plan, execute, and evaluate evidence-based public health interventions in both domestic and international contexts.
The course covers a range of important topics, including disease prevention, epidemiological monitoring, health promotion, health systems planning, and evidence-based public health practices. Students will also learn about environmental health, health economics, and the prevention of non-communicable and communicable diseases. This program is suitable for professionals working in the health sector as well as those looking to pursue a career in public health.
The MPH program is a two-year, full-time course taught in English. In the first year, students will focus on global health systems, public health interventions, health research, and systems thinking. In the second year, students will specialize in areas such as health economics, communicable disease epidemiology, environmental health, and non-communicable disease prevention. Students also have the option to complete elective courses or undertake a research project, which may be a stepping stone toward a PhD.
The MPH curriculum is aligned with the competency standards set by the Council of Public Health Institutions in Australasia (CAPHIA). Although public health qualifications do not require professional accreditation, the program is designed to meet high academic standards.
To apply, prospective students must have a qualification equivalent to an Australian bachelor’s degree and meet the following English language requirements:
- IELTS (Academic): 6.5 (no band below 6.0)
- TOEFL (iBT): 88 (minimum scores: Reading 21, Listening 21, Speaking 21, Writing 25)
- PTE Academic: 65 (no score below 58)
- Cambridge English C1 Advanced: 176 (no score below 169 in any skill)
While there is no official application deadline, students are encouraged to apply 2.5 to 3 months before the course start date. The course begins on July 21, 2025.
The total tuition fee for the program is approximately $75,748 AUD.
