International Women’s Day: ESL promotes diversity, launches programs for Women Empowerment

#ESL installs sanitary napkin vending machines on International Women’s Day

Bokaro: To celebrate its women workforce at key positions within the organization, ESL Steel Limited organized a workshop “Women’s Financial Literacy Program” and installed 8 sanitary napkin vending machines across the plant premises.

The Women’s Financial Literacy Program was launched with an aim to equip the female staff about various money-related practices that can potentially make them wiser with investments and monetary planning. The purpose of the workshop was to empower the women workforce by becoming independent through careful planning of investments and finances.

The women learned common investment mistakes and how to overcome them, things to consider while making investments, types of investment products, and goal-based planning which includes vacations, child’s education, and marriage, financial support to parents, retirement planning, and crisis management at home.

Smriti Zubin Irani, Minister of Textiles and Ministry of Women & Child Development congratulated the Vedanta family for their leading change in the grassroots. She mentioned that Vedanta is focused and dedicated to the cause of Women and Children in our country.

Vedanta is an inspiration to many corporate sectors who seeks what kind of activities that one should undertake under the CSR component. Vedanta is dedicating its efforts towards daily medicine, speaks volume about only the efforts undertaking so far in Nandghar in terms of additional infrastructure and educational support given within Anganwadi systems but also to address the healthcare means of Women and Children

Speaking on the occasion, Pankaj Malhan, CEO, ESL Steel Ltd said, “To celebrate the efficient womenfolk at our plant, ESL launched the campaign which made them feel appreciated for their hard work. Being a meritocracy-based organization, ESL favours the achievers who show determination and dedication in achieving tasks and fulfilling responsibilities. The response to the workshop has been really positive and that further motivates us to continue introducing such initiatives that keep our women staff enthusiastic and encouraged.”

To make its women workforce feel inclusive and to test the employee’s knowledge about the incredible work done by women, daily quiz competitions were also held. As a token of appreciation, the HR team has also planned a cultural event for the female staff on Women’s Day on March 8, 2021.

To address gender diversity, the steel major is looking to upscale the percentage of its women workforce by hiring more females at leadership roles. ESL wants to further improve upon its inclusive culture where diversity in all its forms is valued and recognised. The company aims to reduce the barriers to the progression of female talent in the highly male-dominated steel industry.

The company has endeavoured to encourage women professionals by creating proper policies to tackle issues relating to safe and proper working conditions and create and maintain a healthy and conducive work environment that is free from discrimination of any kind.

Earlier this year, ESL appreciated the women in their coke oven department for working with grit and striving for excellence irrespective of the hard or strenuous tasks. The women in ESL are breaking stereotypes every day by taking challenges and working in segments such as the steel melting shop and the coke oven department, which were predominantly managed and run by men earlier
