JNS: The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) Chairman, S Somanath, announced that India’s groundbreaking solar mission, Aditya-L1, is set to reach its designated destination, the Lagrangian point (L1), located at a distance of 1.5 million kilometers from Earth, on January 6th of this year.
Speaking to the media during the XPoSat launch event in Sriharikota, Somanath revealed that ISRO is preparing for the final maneuver to position Aditya-L1 at the L1 point.
Launched on September 2, 2023, Aditya-L1 represents India’s maiden venture into the study of the Sun from a halo orbit situated at L1, a pivotal observation point in space.
Furthermore, Chairman Somanath disclosed ISRO’s ambitious plans for the year ahead, with approximately 12 to 14 missions in the pipeline for 2024.
He emphasized that this year would be dedicated to preparations for the much-anticipated Gaganyaan mission, a significant milestone in India’s space exploration journey.
Somanath underscored that a series of rigorous tests and preparations will precede the actual launch of Gaganyaan, scheduled for 2025, reaffirming ISRO’s commitment to achieving remarkable feats in the realm of space exploration.
