Hyderabad: Telugu actor Allu Arjun has been arrested in connection with the death of a woman in a stampede during the premiere of Pushpa 2: The Rule in Hyderabad last week, media reports confirmed. The Chikkadpally Police filed a criminal case against Arjun, his security team, and the theater management after the victim’s husband lodged a complaint.
The stampede occurred on the night of December 4 at the Sandhya Theatre, located in Hyderabad’s RTC Crossroads, when a massive crowd gathered to see Arjun, who was present at the screening. The chaos ensued as fans rushed to get a glimpse of the actor, and police had to resort to lathicharge to control the crowd.
Revathi, 39, who had traveled with her husband and two children from Dilsukhnagar, was injured in the incident and later died in the hospital. Her young son is in critical condition. Reports suggest the crowd surged when Allu Arjun arrived, and security struggled to manage the situation.
Arjun expressed his grief over the tragic incident and offered Rs. 25 lakh in financial support to the victim’s family. In a statement on X, he conveyed his condolences and promised to meet the family personally.
Pushpa 2: The Rule, directed by Sukumar, is the sequel to the 2021 hit Pushpa: The Rise. Arjun, who was reportedly paid a record Rs. 300 crore for the film, stars alongside Rashmika Mandanna and Fahadh Faasil.
