BJP legislator from Jharia Sanjiv Singh was sent behind the bar for allegedly being involved in killing his cousin and Congress leader Niraj Singh.
Niraj, former Deputy Mayor of Dhanbad, had been gunned down on March 21 last.
“The MLA will be put through polygraph tests,” said Saket Kumar Singh DIG, Bokaro Range.
“Motorcycle-borne killers intercepted Niraj’s SUV barely 100 metres from his home and pumped 67 bullets from AK-47 rifle and pistols into the body of Singh and three others, who were with him inside the SUV,” he added.
Earlier, the MLA surrendered at Saraidhela police station after the court issued an arrest warrant against him on Tuesday morning. “Singh was arrested and later produced at the CJM house in late evening,” the DIG said.
“After the court issued an arrest warrant against Sanjiv, he surrendered at the police station at 2 PM. Heavy police force was deployed on the police station premises after a huge crowd gathered there,” said SSP Manoj Ratan Chothe.
Niraj’s younger brother and his mother Sarojini Singh had alleged before the police that Sanjiv was behind the murder. His mother told police that it was the conspiracy of Sanjiv Singh to kill her son, said police and later an FIR was filed under Sections 302 (murder), 307 (attempt to murder) and 120B (criminal conspiracy) of the IPC, and Section 27 (illegal possession of firearms) of the of Arms Act against Sanjiv and the others by Niraj’s younger brother Abhishek Singh, police said.
Following the order of Chief Minister Raghubar Das, a special investigation team of CID was also formed to investigate the murder.
Niraj had a political rivalry with Sanjiv. He had unsuccessfully contested the 2014 Jharkhand assembly election from Jharia constituency on Congress ticket.
