CBI Arrests Arvind Kejriwal from Tihar Jail

Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) from Tihar Jail on Tuesday. The CBI is set to produce him before a trial court on Wednesday, potentially leading to his formal arrest by the central agency, sources reported.

This development comes just a day before the Supreme Court is scheduled to hear Kejriwal’s plea challenging a Delhi High Court order that paused the bail granted to him by a lower court.

On Monday, the CBI questioned Kejriwal in Tihar Jail regarding the liquor policy case and recorded his statement. Following this, the CBI filed an application for a production warrant, which was subsequently issued by a special court.

Kejriwal is expected to be presented before the trial court at 10 am on Wednesday, likely before the Supreme Court hearing begins.

Since Kejriwal is already in judicial custody in an Enforcement Directorate case, his formal arrest can occur in court. Should the CBI secure his custody, Kejriwal will remain in Tihar Jail on Wednesday even if the Supreme Court overturns the Delhi High Court’s stay on his bail.

Meanwhile, AAP MP Sanjay Singh commented on the situation, stating, “Arvind Kejriwal is likely to get bail from the Supreme Court. Before this, the BJP government at the center, along with the CBI, has conspired to arrest Kejriwal by preparing a false case against him.” He further alleged a conspiracy to prevent Kejriwal from obtaining bail ahead of the Supreme Court hearing.
