# Amaravati will be the capital of AP, says Naidu
JNS: Telugu Desam Party (TDP) chief N Chandrababu Naidu was unanimously elected as the leader of Andhra Pradesh’s ruling coalition, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), on Tuesday. Naidu is set to take his oath as Chief Minister on Wednesday.
Pawan Kalyan, the Jana Sena chief, nominated Naidu as the NDA’s leader, a decision that was unanimously agreed upon by all members of the alliance that recently won the assembly elections.
Expressing his gratitude upon being chosen as the NDA leader, Naidu said, “Thank you for electing me as parliamentary party leader. Congratulations to the people who delivered this historic verdict.”
During the NDA meeting, Naidu declared that his government would establish Amaravati as the state capital. “Our state will have Amaravati as its capital. We will aim to develop the entire state, not just a few places,” Naidu stated, according to The Indian Express.
Naidu’s predecessor, YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) president Jagan Mohan Reddy, had advocated for decentralized development, proposing Amaravati as the legislative capital, Visakhapatnam as the administrative capital, and Kurnool as the judicial capital. In a pointed remark towards the former Chief Minister, Naidu noted that voters responded by defeating the YSRCP in Visakhapatnam.
The TDP chief’s unanimous election as the coalition’s leader follows a dominant performance in the recent assembly elections, where the TDP, Jana Sena Party, and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) alliance secured 135, 21, and 8 seats respectively. In contrast, the YSRCP, which came to power in 2019, managed to win only 11 seats.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is expected to attend Naidu’s oath-taking ceremony.
