Ranchi: Chief Minister Hemant Soren today called on top bureaucrats in Jharkhand to intensify efforts to accelerate revenue collection and explore new avenues for additional funds. In a meeting with Principal Secretaries and Secretaries of various departments, Soren discussed the need to fulfill the state’s financial promises and prepare for the supplementary budget for 2024-25.
Soren emphasized the urgency of ramping up development work and increasing revenue to meet the financial needs for schemes such as the Rs 2500 honorarium for women aged 18-50, subsidized LPG cylinders, and free power up to 200 units, among others.
The Chief Minister stressed the need for better revenue management, urging officials to reduce wastage and cut down on establishment expenditure. He called for a detailed, micro-level analysis of the revenue generation system to identify and fix flaws.
He also pointed out that a lack of coordination between departments often delays revenue collection and hampers targets. Soren directed officials to ensure greater inter-departmental coordination and assigned clear responsibilities to district-level officers to meet revenue goals.
Furthermore, Soren suggested that various boards, agencies, and corporations in different departments could be transformed into business models to expand their operations and generate additional revenue. He also called for a mechanism to track CSR funds spent by industries, which could offer new revenue opportunities for the state.
The Chief Minister concluded by urging officials to engage with industrial groups and companies to explore further possibilities for increasing the state’s revenue base.
