Ranchi: Cyclone ‘Dana,’ which has formed in the Bay of Bengal, is rapidly intensifying, with wind speeds reaching 120 kilometers per hour. In response, the Ranchi-based India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Jharkhand, indicating significant changes in the weather pattern across the state.
According to the IMD, ‘Dana’ is expected to pass between Puri in Odisha and Sagardwip in West Bengal on the night of October 24 and the morning of October 25. The low-pressure area currently over the Bay of Bengal is projected to develop into a full cyclonic storm by Wednesday, October 23.
Heavy rainfall is anticipated in southern Jharkhand starting October 24. The IMD’s bulletin warns of possible heavy downpours at isolated locations in the southeastern regions of the state on Thursday, with thundershowers and lightning expected. Surface winds are forecasted to reach 30-40 kilometers per hour, with gusts up to 50 kilometers per hour.
On Friday, October 25, similar weather conditions are likely, with heavy rainfall expected in southern and adjoining central parts of the state. The IMD has advised fishermen in coastal areas of Odisha and neighboring Bengal to refrain from venturing into the sea this week due to the cyclone’s approach.
Residents of Jharkhand are urged to stay informed and take necessary precautions as Cyclone ‘Dana’ approaches.
