Delhi CM Presents Rs 1 Lakh Crore Budget, Emphasizing Infrastructure and Welfare

New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta today presented the Delhi Budget for the financial year 2025-26, announcing a significant 31.58% increase from the previous year, bringing the total allocation to Rs 1 lakh crore. In her address following the budget presentation in the Delhi Assembly, Gupta outlined key areas of focus, including infrastructure development and welfare initiatives.

A major highlight of the budget was the 17% increase in funding for the education sector, with Rs 19,291 crore allocated, up from Rs 16,396 crore last year. The transport sector saw a remarkable 73% budget increase, while the budget for Housing and Urban Development rose by 9%.

This marks the first budget presented by the newly formed BJP-led Delhi government. As Finance Minister, CM Gupta announced a capital expenditure of over Rs 28,000 crore, nearly double the previous year’s allocation.

The flagship scheme of the Delhi government, the Mahila Samriddhi Yojana, was allocated Rs 5,100 crore in this budget. The transport sector received over Rs 12,000 crore, and Rs 9,000 crore was set aside for clean drinking water and sanitation projects. Additionally, Rs 100 crore was earmarked for the establishment of Atal Canteens at 100 locations across the capital.

Focusing on women’s safety, Gupta also announced plans to install 50,000 CCTV cameras throughout the city. Furthermore, financial aid of Rs 3,200 crore will be provided to senior citizens and people with disabilities.

In her remarks, the Chief Minister called the budget “historic” and the largest in the city’s history. She emphasized that the budget represents a roadmap for Delhi’s development, with ten key focus areas, including infrastructure, electricity, roads, and water. Gupta also highlighted the importance of investment, noting that the provisions and schemes introduced would position Delhi as a global infrastructure hub.
