Delhi court rejects Arvind Kerjiwal’s interim bail plea on medical grounds

New Delhi: The Rouse Avenue Court in New Delhi has dismissed an interim bail plea filed by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who sought seven days’ bail on medical grounds.

Arvind Kejriwal, entangled in a money-laundering case linked to the now-defunct Delhi excise policy, returned to Tihar jail on June 2 following the culmination of the last phase of Lok Sabha polling. Earlier, he had been granted bail for 21 days by the Supreme Court to facilitate campaigning for his Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) during the general elections.

In the latest development, the Rouse Avenue Court, presiding over Kejriwal’s virtual appearance, extended his judicial custody until June 19. Furthermore, the court directed the relevant authorities to conduct necessary medical examinations for the Aam Aadmi Party chief.

Scheduled for June 7, the court will consider Kejriwal’s application seeking default bail in the case.

Arvind Kejriwal’s legal saga began in March, leading to a temporary three-week bail extension until June 1. Subsequently, on Sunday, the Rouse Avenue Court ordered his judicial custody until June 5, following his surrender to Tihar Jail in compliance with Supreme Court directives.
