Earthquake measuring 6.1 on Richter Scale hits Nepal, tremors felt in Bihar

New Delhi: A powerful earthquake measuring 6.1 on the Richter Scale struck Nepal early Friday morning, with tremors also affecting parts of India’s Bihar state, according to reports.

The earthquake hit Nepal’s Sindhupalchok District at approximately 2:51 a.m., with the epicenter located in Bhairavkunda, as confirmed by the National Earthquake Monitoring and Research Centre.

So far, there have been no reports of casualties or significant property damage. However, the quake caused widespread panic, with many residents rushing out of their homes in the aftermath of the tremors. Authorities in Nepal have initiated assessments of the affected areas to determine the extent of any impact.

In India, tremors were also felt in cities like Patna and Muzaffarpur. A video shared by an X user depicted a fan shaking, showcasing the tremors’ impact. Meanwhile, India’s National Center for Seismology reported the earthquake’s intensity at 5.5 on the Richter Scale.

Local authorities in both countries continue to monitor the situation closely.
