ESL Empowers Communities with Water Conservation Drive on World Water Day

Bokaro: In celebration of World Water Day 2025, Vedanta ESL’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Department, in partnership with the Central Engineering Department, successfully launched an impactful water conservation initiative under Project Swajal.

The drive, centered around the theme “Glacier Preservation,” aimed to raise awareness and empower local communities and students about the significance of household water conservation and the preservation of freshwater resources.

At Budhibinor Anganwadi, an awareness session was held with 45 Self-Help Group (SHG) beneficiaries, focusing on practical water-saving techniques such as rainwater harvesting, efficient water storage, and minimizing wastage. Participants were provided with actionable solutions to incorporate into their daily lives to help conserve water. The session culminated in an oath-taking ceremony where attendees pledged to adopt sustainable water practices.

In addition, ESL organized a drawing contest at the Chandaha Drawing Centre, inviting over fifty students to create artwork under the theme “Save Water; Glacier Preservation.” The event encouraged young participants to express their understanding of water conservation through creative means. The top three winners were awarded prizes, motivating them to become active environmental advocates. The session concluded with another oath-taking ceremony, reinforcing the crucial role of youth in preserving water for future generations.

This initiative, part of Vedanta ESL’s broader commitment to water conservation, successfully raised awareness about the importance of glacier preservation and water-saving practices within the community. It also encouraged students to embrace environmental responsibility through creative expression.

Commenting on the initiative, Kunal Daripa, Head of CSR at ESL, stated, “We are dedicated to promoting sustainable water management through community engagement and education. Project Swajal empowers individuals to adopt water-saving techniques in their everyday lives. The enthusiasm and active participation shown by students and community members on World Water Day reflect the growing awareness and collective effort to protect our invaluable freshwater resources.”

Through Project Swajal, ESL CSR continues to support various community-driven water conservation efforts, including the repair of handpumps, installation of solar-powered water systems, and implementation of local water supply projects. The observance of World Water Day 2025 served as a key platform to advocate for glacier preservation and responsible water usage at the grassroots level.
