Gujarat Rings in 2024 with Guinness World Record: Mass Surya Namaskar Performance

JNS: Gujarat ushered in the New Year with an extraordinary achievement, securing a coveted place in the Guinness Book of World Records by orchestrating a mass Surya Namaskar performance at an impressive 108 locations simultaneously.

On the auspicious first day of the year, Gujarat made history as thousands of participants across the state collectively engaged in the practice of Surya Namaskar, paying homage to the rising sun.

This remarkable feat unfolded at 108 different locations, a number of profound significance in Indian tradition.

Among the notable sites, the Modhera Sun Temple, a site steeped in historical and cultural significance, witnessed around 2500 individuals actively participating in the Surya Namaskar practice as part of the state-level celebration.

In addition to this monumental achievement, the event also served as a platform to honor the victors of the state-level Mega Surya Namaskar Competition. Organized by the Gujarat State Yog Board and the state government, this month-long competition aimed to popularize the practice of Surya Namaskar among the people of Gujarat.

The grand ceremony held at the revered Modhera Sun Temple, located in the Mahesana district, was graced by the presence of Gujarat’s Chief Minister, Bhupendra Patel, and the Minister for Home Affairs, Harsh Sanghavi.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his heartfelt congratulations to the state of Gujarat for its exceptional accomplishment on the first day of 2024. In his statement, the PM commended Gujarat for setting a Guinness World Record by orchestrating a simultaneous mass Surya Namaskar performance at 108 different locations, a number that holds special significance in Indian traditions.

PM emphasized the importance of Surya Namaskar and its role in promoting physical and mental well-being. He praised the collective effort, singling out the renowned Modhera Sun Temple, where numerous participants contributed to the record-breaking achievement.
