Sahibganj: A tragic head-on collision between two NTPC-operated goods trains in Sahibganj district’s Bhognadih area early Tuesday morning resulted in the deaths of both train drivers and left four others injured, according to police reports. The incident occurred around 3 a.m. near the Barhait police station.
The collision took place on tracks owned by NTPC, which are primarily used for transporting coal to its power plants. Kausik Mitra, an Eastern Railway spokesperson, clarified that the trains and tracks involved are entirely under NTPC’s operation and do not form part of the Indian Railways network.
The affected line, known as the NTPC Lalmatia MGR, connects NTPC’s Kahalgaon Super Thermal Power Station in Bihar to the Farakka Power Plant in West Bengal. Following the accident, NTPC requested support from Indian Railways, who arranged a 140-tonne crane from the Malda Division to assist with the recovery and restoration process.
