Ranchi: In a significant reshuffle within the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), Chief Minister Hemant Soren has been unanimously elected as the new central president of the party. The announcement was made on the second day of the 13th General Convention held at Khelgaon, Ranchi.
The party also conferred the title of Founder Patron on veteran leader and party founder Shibu Soren, widely revered as Dishom Guru. This move marks a strategic reorganization of JMM’s top leadership, consolidating control in the hands of Hemant Soren.
In a key constitutional amendment made on the first day of the convention, the post of working president—held by Hemant Soren since 2015—was officially abolished, and the new role of founding patron was instituted in its place.
There had been speculation that Kalpana Murmu Soren, MLA from Gandey and Hemant Soren’s wife, might be appointed as working president. However, with the structural changes and Hemant Soren’s elevation, the leadership mantle has now fully transitioned to him.
This shift marks a new chapter in the JMM’s internal hierarchy, as the party gears up for future political challenges under Hemant Soren’s consolidated leadership.
