Dhanbad: IIT-ISM Dhanbad hosted its annual fest, Prakash ’25, marking the 26th year of its flagship social initiative, Kartavya. The event, held at the Penman Auditorium, celebrated the transformative impact of Kartavya in empowering students from underprivileged backgrounds through education, mentorship, and financial aid.
The fest featured cultural performances by children mentored by IIT-ISM students, including drama, dances, poetry, and demonstrations of Karate and Yoga. Additionally, competitions like Poster Making, Science Exhibitions, and “Best Out of Waste” highlighted creativity and sustainability.
The inauguration was graced by Hrudeep P. Janardhanan, Senior Superintendent of Police, Dhanbad, who praised Kartavya as “the best service to society.” Reflecting on his student days, he emphasized the importance of such initiatives in nation-building.
ProfessorDheeraj Kumar, Deputy Director of IIT-ISM, applauded Kartavya for its role in providing educational support and fostering holistic development for underprivileged students.
ProfessorSanjeev Anand Sahu, Head of the Centre for Societal Mission (CSM), elaborated on the wide-reaching community programs under CSM, including Kartavya.
YK Paswan, General Manager of CCSO, SAIL, highlighted the partnership between corporate social responsibility and student-driven initiatives like Kartavya, reaffirming SAIL’s support.
Kartavya has been instrumental in providing mentorship, academic guidance, and life skills to underprivileged children, creating a ripple effect of positive change. The event concluded on a high note, showcasing the power of education and community engagement in transforming lives.
