India exports defence components to around 100 countries: Govt

New Delhi: India is rapidly establishing itself as a major global defence export center, supplying domestically manufactured defence components to around 100 countries, including key markets such as the United States, France, and Armenia. This was announced by Akhilesh Kumar Mishra, Deputy Director General of the Defence Investment and Corridor Cell, Ministry of Defence, during a keynote address at a one-day awareness session on “Evolving Local to Focal: Focus on MSME Entrepreneurs” organized by the Bharat Chamber of Commerce in Agartala on Thursday.

Mishra highlighted India’s strong defence industry base, which includes 16 Defence Public Sector Undertakings (DPSUs) involved in domestic production. He noted that India’s defence production reached an impressive ₹1.27 lakh crore in the fiscal year 2023-2024, with 21 percent of this output coming from private domestic industrialists.

Looking ahead, Mishra revealed that the Ministry of Defence is targeting ₹1.75 lakh crore in domestic defence production for the current year. He also emphasized that 2025 has been declared as the “Year of Reforms” by the Ministry, with plans underway to transform the armed forces into a technologically advanced, combat-ready force.

The session in Agartala, aimed at empowering MSME entrepreneurs in the defence sector, underlined the importance of fostering innovation and collaboration between local industries and the government to drive India’s defence capabilities forward.
