India Makes Contribution Of 1.16 Million Dollars To The UN For Promotion Of Hindi

New York: India has contributed $1.16 million to the United Nations to promote the use of Hindi within the global organization. R. Ravindra, the charge d’affaires of India’s Permanent Mission, handed over the cheque to Ian Phillips, the director of the News and Media Division of the UN’s Department of Global Communications (DGC), for the ‘Hindi @ UN’ project.

India has partnered with the DGC since 2018, when the ‘Hindi @ UN’ project was launched to enhance the public outreach of the United Nations in the Hindi language.

This initiative aims to spread greater awareness about global issues among millions of Hindi-speaking people around the world.

The United Nations produces a weekly audio news bulletin in Hindi on matters relating to the organization.

Additionally, the UN maintains social media accounts on X, Instagram, and Facebook in Hindi, along with a dedicated news website.

While there has been a push to increase the UN’s multilingualism, financial constraints remain a challenge, which India’s contribution aims to address.
