India Secures 10th Spot with $1.4 Billion in Private AI Investment: UN Report

New Delhi: India has secured the 10th position globally for attracting private investments in Artificial Intelligence (AI), with a total of $1.4 billion in 2023, according to the latest Technology and Innovation Report 2025 released by the UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD).

The report highlights India’s significant progress in the field of AI, also noting an improvement in its ranking on the Readiness for Frontier Technologies Index, where India moved up to 36th position in 2024 from 48th in 2022.

This index measures a country’s preparedness for emerging technologies, and India now stands at 36th out of 170 nations.

The report further identifies global leaders in AI, with the United States topping the list with a staggering $67 billion in private AI investments in 2023, accounting for 70% of the global total. China follows in second place with $7.8 billion, while India ranks 10th with its $1.4 billion investment.

Other notable countries excelling in AI development include Germany, the UK, and China, which are recognized for their scientific prowess in the field.
