New Delhi: In a historic milestone, India has achieved a world record with an unprecedented 64.2 crore voters participating in the Lok Sabha Polls, announced Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar today in New Delhi.
Kumar highlighted that this figure surpasses the combined voter count of all G7 countries, including the US, UK, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, and Canada, by 1.5 times.
Addressing the media, Kumar revealed that the current Lok Sabha polls witnessed the highest turnout of women voters globally, with 31.2 crore women exercising their voting rights.
Unlike the 2019 General Election, which saw 540 repolling instances, only 39 repolls were conducted in this election cycle, indicating improved electoral integrity. Kumar credited the seamless conduct of the polls to the engagement of over 68 thousand monitoring teams and 1.5 crore polling and security personnel.
In a reassuring note, the Chief Election Commissioner stated that the election witnessed minimal violence, with no major incidents reported. He noted a significant increase in seizures amounting to ten thousand crore rupees, including cash, freebies, drugs, and liquor, compared to three thousand 500 crore rupees seized during the 2019 polls.
Furthermore, Kumar highlighted the swift resolution of Model Code of Conduct violations, with over 90 percent of the 495 complaints addressed during this year’s General Elections.
Turning attention to the counting process, Kumar outlined robust security measures, including a three-layer security arrangement by Central Armed Police Forces at counting centers.
He assured round-the-clock CCTV surveillance and deployment of micro observers at each counting table to ensure transparency and accuracy.
Responding to concerns raised by opposition party delegations, Kumar affirmed that all issues have been duly addressed by the commission, underscoring the commitment to uphold democratic principles and ensure fair electoral practices.
