Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren summoned by ED in land scam case

Ranchi: Enforcement Directorate (ED) has issued a summons to the Chief Minister of Jharkhand, Hemant Soren, concerning an alleged land scam case.

The ED has mandated Soren’s presence at its Ranchi office on the 14th of August, invoking the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).

This is not the first instance of the Chief Minister being summoned by the ED. In November of 2022, Hemant Soren was called in by the agency and subjected to more than 10 hours of questioning regarding his involvement in an illegal mining case. During this previous encounter, he was also questioned under the purview of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).

The unfolding investigation has led to notable developments as well. The ED has apprehended and incarcerated several individuals, including Chhavi Ranjan, the former Deputy Commissioner of Ranchi, alongside numerous business figures. These arrests have transpired as part of the ongoing inquiry into the alleged land scam case.
