Jharkhand Poll: Police Confiscate Rs 71.97 Lakh in Cash at Dhanbad-Bokaro

Bokaro: In a significant operation, police have confiscated Rs 71.97 lakh in cash from an Innova car at the Dhanbad-Bokaro border, near the inter-district check post on the Telmochho Damodar bridge. This seizure occurred during a special vehicle inspection campaign linked to the upcoming Jharkhand assembly elections, which is currently underway in Bokaro and Dhanbad.

According to police sources, the incident transpired when the driver of the Innova, upon noticing police presence, attempted to evade authorities by making a U-turn. Quick to respond, officers set up barricades to intercept the fleeing vehicle.

During a detailed search at the Telmochho check post, police pursued the Innova (registration number JH 10 BY – 9655) as it sped away and successfully brought it to a stop.

A subsequent search of the vehicle uncovered a large cache of cash concealed in the trunk and other areas. The occupants claimed to be businessmen from Ranchi or Bokaro, but their inconsistent responses raised suspicions, leading police to seize the entire amount.

Early Wednesday morning, the confiscated cash was counted at a local bank, confirming a total of Rs 71.97 lakh. Investigations into the source and intended use of the funds are ongoing.
