JNS: Joshimath, Uttarakhand, has been declared a disaster-prone area, and construction activities in the town and surrounding areas have been prohibited. Himanshu Khurana, District Magistrate of Chamoli, stated that two central teams, including one from the Union Jal Shakti Ministry, will arrive in Joshimath soon.
Cracks have appeared in 603 structures in Joshimath, as reported by the Chamoli District Disaster Management Authority. Officials reported that 68 families had been ‘temporarily’ relocated. The government has also issued mandatory evacuation orders for regions with a high risk of landslides.
There are an estimated 1271 available beds in the Joshimath metropolitan region, where 229 rooms have been designated as temporary habitable. Officials have stated that they are working to locate areas hit by landslides, and that vulnerable families are being relocated temporarily to safer areas.
