Kanyakumari: In a remarkable addition to Tamil Nadu’s tourism landscape, Kanyakumari has unveiled India’s first-ever glass bridge over the sea. The bridge, inaugurated yesterday, connects two iconic landmarks—the 133-foot Saint Tiruvalluvar statue and the Vivekananda Rock Memorial.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin led the inauguration of the bridge, which offers tourists an opportunity to take a breezy walk between the landmarks while enjoying panoramic views of the ocean below. Spanning 77 meters in length and 10 meters in width, the bridge is designed to provide an uninterrupted seascape experience.
Constructed at a cost of Rs 37 crore, the glass bridge is part of the silver jubilee celebrations of the Tiruvalluvar statue, which has been recently renamed the Statue of Wisdom.
The bridge, a bowstring arch design, will eliminate the need for ferry services, which were previously required for visitors to access both monuments. Now, tourists can walk leisurely across the bridge, enhancing their overall experience.
This state-of-the-art structure is built to withstand the challenging marine environment, ensuring its durability and safety. It stands as a symbol of Tamil Nadu’s commitment to boosting tourism and modernizing Kanyakumari’s infrastructure.
The project, envisioned by Chief Minister Stalin, is a key part of efforts to transform Kanyakumari into a premier tourist destination, showcasing the state’s investment in enhancing local attractions and amenities.
