Legendary Actor-Director Manoj Kumar, Known as ‘Bharat Kumar,’ Passes Away at 87

Mumbai: Renowned actor and director Manoj Kumar, famously known as ‘Bharat Kumar’ for his iconic patriotic roles, passed away this morning in Mumbai at the age of 87. He was admitted to Kokilaben Dhirubai Ambani Hospital in Mumbai, where he died at 3:30 am on Friday due to heart-related complications. The secondary cause of death is decompensated liver cirrhosis, as per the medical certificate issued by the hospital.

The legendary figure in Indian cinema, who was honored with the Padma Shri and Dadasaheb Phalke Award, leaves behind a legacy of timeless contributions to the film industry.

Born as Harikrishna Giri Goswami, Kumar became a pioneering force in shaping the genre of patriotic films in Bollywood. His memorable performances in classics like Upkar (1967), Purab Aur Paschim (1970), and Kranti (1981) earned him the affectionate title of ‘Bharat Kumar.’ He also starred in several other hit films such as Patthar Ke Sanam, Shor, Sanyasi, and Roti Kapda Aur Makan, leaving an indelible mark with his patriotic themes and unforgettable screen presence.
