Lucknow Launches First Double-Decker Electric Bus to Combat Traffic and Promote Sustainability

Lucknow: In a significant move towards improving urban transport and promoting environmental sustainability, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath launched the state’s first double-decker electric bus in Lucknow. The inauguration took place during the Aakanksha Haat event at the Indira Gandhi Pratishthan.

The introduction of the double-decker electric bus aims to address the growing traffic congestion in the city while also supporting environmental conservation efforts. The initiative is part of a broader push to reduce air pollution and encourage the use of eco-friendly public transport options in the state.

Addressing the crowd, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also announced a series of benefits for women travelers. A special 50% discount on tickets will be offered to women using the new electric bus service, which was met with applause from the audience. Furthermore, the Chief Minister declared that women will be able to travel for free on the heritage route every Saturday morning, further enhancing the accessibility of public transport.

The bus will operate on a dual schedule: in the mornings, it will run on the heritage route, offering a unique travel experience for tourists and history enthusiasts. In the evenings, the bus will serve regular passengers, operating between Kamta Crossing and the airport via Shaheed Path.

According to officials from the Transport Department, the bus can accommodate up to 65 passengers at a time. Passengers paying via digital platforms will receive a 10% discount, promoting cashless transactions.

To ensure passenger safety, particularly for women, the bus is equipped with five CCTV cameras and a panic button. Additionally, real-time tracking of the bus will be available through an electronic vehicle tracking device, allowing authorities to monitor its location at all times.

The introduction of this electric bus is seen as a step forward in making Lucknow’s public transport more sustainable, accessible, and safer for all residents.
