*BJP trolls Rahul Gandhi over ‘jalebi’ fiasco as Congress faces 3rd defeat in Haryana polls*
JNS: In the wake of Congress’s third consecutive defeat in the Haryana assembly elections, the BJP has capitalized on a humorous incident involving Rahul Gandhi and a box of jalebis, igniting a wave of mockery across social media.
The saga began when Deepender Singh Hooda, a senior Congress leader in Haryana, presented Gandhi with a box of Maturam’s renowned jalebis during a campaign event. After tasting the sweets, Gandhi proclaimed them the best he had ever had and suggested they should be mass-produced for wider enjoyment. He even expressed his enthusiasm to his sister Priyanka, stating, “I have eaten the best jalebi of my life.”
In the lead-up to the elections, Gandhi shared an Instagram video promoting Maturam’s Jalebi and encouraging support for local businesses, linking the expansion of jalebi sales to job creation across the country.
However, the BJP quickly seized upon this sweet strategy, ridiculing Gandhi by highlighting the absence of “jalebi factories.” Following the election results, which secured a third term for the BJP in Haryana, the party ramped up its jibes, with Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan mocking Gandhi’s campaign as mere “photo shoots.”
Social media users flooded platforms with jalebi-themed jokes aimed at Congress. Satirist Kamlesh Singh shared an image of Maturam’s shop, declaring it the “happiest place in Haryana” and joking about the potential losses had a jalebi factory been established. Others chimed in with quips like “Maturam jalebi, Congress farebi,” along with videos of shopkeepers denying that the jalebis gifted to Gandhi came from their store.
As the BJP celebrated its victory, they continued to poke fun at Congress, tweeting, “Dipender bhai, the jalebi box did not arrive,” referencing Hooda’s earlier promise to send jalebis if Congress won. The party’s Tamil Nadu account joined the fray, humorously offering “piping hot jalebis” to Congress leaders. Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma even celebrated the BJP’s win by making jalebis himself.
With the electoral outcome firmly decided and no jalebi factory on the horizon for the next five years, the sweet treat has now become a playful symbol of political satire, enjoying its moment in the limelight.
