North Korean Leader Orders Mass Production of Suicide Attack Drones

Seoul: North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has ordered the mass production of suicide attack drones, according to media reports citing the state-run Korean Central News Agency (KCNA).

Kim’s directive follows his recent observation of tests involving various types of these drones, which were developed by the Unmanned Aerial Technology Complex, an institute affiliated with North Korea’s military research efforts. The tests reportedly took place the day before the announcement, with Kim providing on-site guidance and oversight.

According to KCNA, the drones are designed to strike both ground and naval targets with high precision across different ranges. The state media outlet quoted Kim as saying that North Korea has the “full possibility and potential” to produce a variety of drones, emphasizing their importance in modern warfare. He also mentioned the country’s intent to explore new tactical strategies and methods that could enhance the effectiveness of these drones in combat.

The announcement comes just months after North Korea publicly revealed the results of its first performance tests for the suicide drones in August, also overseen by Kim. This marks a significant step in the development of North Korea’s unmanned aerial capabilities, which are seen as part of its growing efforts to modernize its military arsenal.

The move raises concerns among neighboring countries and the international community, as the use of suicide drones could further escalate tensions in the region and complicate the security situation on the Korean Peninsula.
