NUSRL Wins 14th N. A. Palkhivala National Moot Court Competition

Ranchi: The National University of Study and Research in Law (NUSRL), Ranchi, achieved a remarkable victory at the 14th Padma Vibhushan N. A. Palkhivala Memorial National Moot Court Competition held in Mumbai, organized by Maharashtra National Law University in collaboration with the All India Federation of Tax Practitioners and the Income Tax Appellate Tribunal Bar Association. The event featured participation from 76 universities across the country.

The NUSRL team, comprising fourth-year students Shreyanshi Singh and Garima Kiran, along with researcher Aman Upadhyay, excelled in their oral presentations and advanced to the final round, which was adjudicated by a panel of distinguished judges. Their success underscores the university’s growing reputation in legal education.

Focusing on the constitutional validity of Sections 148 and 148A concerning reassessment processes and amendments from the Finance Act, 2021, the team’s strong legal arguments and thorough research were key to their victory.

The University of Calcutta secured the runner-up position, while Law College Dehradun finished as the second runner-up. Symbiosis Law School, Hyderabad, won Best Memorial, Akash Srivastava from Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies, Bangalore, was named Best Speaker, and Zeenat Tasneem from the University of Calcutta was awarded Best Researcher.

The closing ceremony included a panel discussion on the changing landscape of legal practice, highlighting the role of moot court competitions in developing skilled lawyers. Vice Chancellor Professor (Dr.) Ashok R. Patil praised the NUSRL team’s hard work and the guidance of Moot Court Coordinator Soni Bhola, which contributed to this significant achievement.
