New Delhi/Islamabad: In a startling admission, Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif acknowledged that Islamabad had been involved in doing the “dirty work” for the United States, UK, and the West over the past three decades, including support for groups during conflicts like the Soviet-Afghan war and post-9/11 operations.
He conceded that it was a “mistake” that has cost Pakistan dearly.

Asif made the comments in response to a Sky News journalist who questioned Pakistan’s historic support for terror groups. He added that Pakistan’s global record could have been “unimpeachable” had it not aligned with Western powers in those conflicts.

His admission coincides with heightened tensions between India and Pakistan following a deadly terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam on April 22, which left 26 people, mostly Hindu tourists, dead. The attack, one of the deadliest since Article 370 was revoked in 2019, was reportedly carried out by The Resistance Front (TRF), an LeT affiliate allegedly linked to 26/11 mastermind Hafiz Saeed.
