PM Modi asks TN leaders to sign in Tamil

Rameshwaram: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during a rally in Rameswaram, took aim at Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin and other state leaders, questioning the authenticity of their pride in the Tamil language.

Modi pointed out that while he frequently receives letters from Tamil Nadu leaders, none of them are signed in Tamil.

“The government is committed to promoting Tamil and its heritage across the globe. However, I am often surprised when I receive letters from leaders in Tamil Nadu—none of them have their signatures in Tamil. If we truly take pride in Tamil, I urge everyone to at least sign their names in the language,” Modi remarked.

His comments come amid ongoing tensions between the DMK-led state government and the BJP-led central government over language issues.

The latest point of contention is the National Education Policy’s three-language formula, which the DMK argues could lead to the imposition of Hindi, threatening the dominance of Tamil in the state’s education system and cultural sphere.
