PM Modi, Danish PM Discuss Boosting Green Strategic Ties Ahead of Nordic Summit

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a telephonic conversation with Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen today, reaffirming the shared commitment to the India-Denmark Green Strategic Partnership and discussing ways to bolster cooperation in key sectors for the mutual benefit of both nations.

Both leaders acknowledged the progress made since the launch of the Green Strategic Partnership in 2020 and the role it has played in expanding bilateral cooperation, particularly in clean energy and sustainable development. They also welcomed the increasing Danish investments in India’s green transition initiatives.

Taking to social media, PM Modi shared that the two also exchanged views on regional and global issues of mutual interest and expressed eagerness for their next meeting at the upcoming 3rd India-Nordic Summit in Norway later this year.

The India-Denmark diplomatic relationship, dating back to 1949, has deepened over the years through shared democratic values and a strong focus on sustainability and innovation. High-level visits in recent years – including PM Modi’s official trip to Denmark in May 2022 and PM Frederiksen’s state visit to India in October 2021 – have reinforced ties and furthered the partnership in sectors like pharmaceuticals, energy, machinery, and technology.

According to Denmark Statistics, bilateral trade between the two countries stood at USD 5.31 billion in 2023, with Indian exports totaling USD 2.74 billion and imports from Denmark at USD 2.59 billion. Key Indian exports include textiles, vehicles, leather, and metal goods, while major Danish exports to India consist of pharmaceuticals, power and industrial machinery, and chemicals.

As both nations continue to build on this foundation, the Green Strategic Partnership remains central to their shared vision for a more sustainable and resilient global future.
