Dhanbad: Professor RM Bhattacharjee, Dean of International Relations and Alumni Affairs at IIT-ISM, was honored by G Kishan Reddy, Union Minister of Coal & Mines, and Vikram Dev Dutt, Secretary of Coal, during the Chintan Shivir 2.0 held at Sushma Swaraj Bhawan in New Delhi.
The recognition came in acknowledgment of Professor Bhattacharjee’s insightful address on “Sustainable Mining and Systematic Mine Closure,” focusing on the critical issues surrounding depleting mining resources.
The Chintan Shivir 2.0, organized by the Ministry of Coal on January 7th, aimed to foster innovation and collaboration within the coal sector.
The event, chaired by G Kishan Reddy and co-chaired by Satish Chandra Dubey, Union Minister of State for Coal and Mines, brought together key stakeholders including senior officials, CMDs, and directors from various coal PSUs.
Professor Bhattacharjee, with over 32 years of experience in the coal industry and academia, specializes in Underground Coal Mining Technology, Risk Assessment, and Disaster Management. His extensive research has contributed significantly to safety protocols and sustainability in the sector.
Speaking on the occasion, Professor Bhattacharjee emphasized the need for a systematic approach to mine closure, a topic that resonated with the attendees. His work underscores the importance of preserving resources and ensuring environmental responsibility while transitioning towards sustainable mining practices.
The Chintan Shivir 2.0 sought to chart a future roadmap for the coal industry, integrating modern technologies and sustainable practices while addressing the challenges of resource depletion and environmental impact.
