Shimla to Unveil Asia’s Longest Ropeway, Set to Boost Tourism and Ease Traffic

Shimla: Shimla is set to become home to Asia’s longest ropeway, spanning an impressive 13.79 kilometers. This project aims to boost tourism and ease the traffic congestion that often affects the popular hill station.

According to the report, the Tara Devi-Shimla Ropeway Project, which is already underway, is being developed at an estimated cost of Rs 1,734.40 crore. The initiative is being carried out by the Ropeway and Rapid Transport System Development Corporation under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) with the Himachal Pradesh government.

Once completed, the ropeway will also hold the distinction of being the second-largest in the world. The route will connect Maa Tara Devi to Sanjauli, covering a vast area of approximately 60 kilometers and linking 15 key stations in Shimla and its surrounding areas.

The ropeway will have the capacity to transport about 2,000 people per hour in both directions. With 660 cabins, each accommodating 8 to 10 passengers, the ropeway will offer a cabin every two to three minutes, providing a comfortable and efficient mode of transport for visitors and locals alike.
