The 39 edition of the three days All India Steel Medical Officers’ Conference (AISMOC) organized by Bokaro Steel run Bokaro General Hospital(BGH), has doubled-up as an experience sharing platform for doctors from the steel industry and a platform for academic discourse led by specialists from some of the best known medicare centres in the country.
On day one, a number of scientific paper presentations were also done by participating doctors from various steel plant hospitals. There were also paper presentations on Occupational Health Services and Total Quality Management, which have special relevance for steel plants.
The day two of the conference was marked by symposiums on the topics Polytrauma and Seasonal Viral Epidemics, besides a panel discussion on UTI. The second day’s highlight also included guest lectures on topics like Robotic Surgery, Recent advances in Neuroscience, GI Endoscopy, Management of Acute Coronary Syndrome, Liver Transplant, Oncology, PSA, Caudal Epidural Anaesthesia etc. The guest speakers were from Apollo Hospitals in Delhi, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata and Bhubhaneshwar, Yashoda Hospital Hyderabad and Nobel Medical College, Nepal. There were also poster competitions for participating doctors to help them refresh their knowledge.
Notably, around 100 scientific papers will be presented by doctors from various SAIL hospitals as well as hospitals run by TATA Steel, RINL and MECON during the conference. Some ex-heads of Medical from various SAIL hospitals were also felicitated during the inaugural session of the conference.
The conference was inaugurated by Bokaro Steel CEO PK Singh in the presence of Director I/c (BGH) Dr AK Singh, Director (BGH) Dr GN Sahoo, Secretary of Organizing Committee Dr RN Pradhan, EDs, GMs and senior officials of Bokaro Steel Plant. The conference started with a keynote address on the topic Bhagwat Gita and Physicians by Prof (Dr) Gangadhar Sahoo, Director, SUM Hospital, Bhubaneshwar.
