Pakistan: In a tragic incident, a woman, her one-year-old son, and her father-in-law were shot dead in the name of ‘honour’ in the Taja Banda area of Mardan city early Monday, according to media reports.
Rustam Station House Officer (SHO) Mohammad Daud Khan confirmed the killings, stating that the alleged perpetrators were the woman’s cousins. The attack reportedly stemmed from the family’s disapproval of her court marriage to Shahi Mulk.
The incident came to light after the woman’s mother-in-law, Nasim Bibi, lodged a first information report (FIR) at the Rustam police station. Bibi recounted hearing intruders enter the house and witnessing the armed men, identified as Abuzar and Bakhtiar, open fire on her daughter-in-law, her husband Sher Aman, and the infant. All three victims died instantly.
The Rustam police have registered a case against the accused, who are residents of Spenkai and Rustam. Honour killings remain a persistent issue in Pakistan, with 346 reported victims between January and November of last year.
