Vedanta ESL Steel Wins Gold at 6th Conclave on 5S Workplace Management

Bokaro: ESL Steel Limited, a Vedanta Group company and a leading greenfield integrated steel producer in India, has added another accolade to its name by winning the Gold Medal at the 6th Conclave on 5S System of Workplace Management. The event was organized by the Bokaro Chapter of QCFI (Quality Circle Forum of India) and held at Bokaro Club.

Vedanta ESL Steel, known for its commitment to excellence, innovation, and dedication to Environment, Health & Safety, recently began implementing internationally recognized best practices, including the 5S Workplace Management system. The company’s presentation on their 5S implementation process and outcomes earned them the top honor and widespread praise.

The 5S system, a Japanese workplace management methodology introduced by management expert Takashi Osada, involves five key steps: Seiri (re-organizing), Seiton (neatness), Seiso (cleaning), Seiketsu (standardization), and Shitsuke (discipline). This system aims to eliminate safety hazards and improve workplace organization and management.

The ESL Steel team included Aleya Arshi and Aysha Gupta from the Business Excellence Department, Tanya Kumari from the Lime and Dolo Department, and Neerav from the Administration Department. Their efforts and achievements in implementing the 5S system were highly commended.

Meenakshi Sabharwal, Chief Quality Officer and Head of the Business Excellence Department at ESL Steel Limited, stated, “We at ESL Steel Limited are in the process of implementing the 5S System of Workplace Management and have finished its first phase, aiming for final certification by November 2024.” She highlighted the benefits of the 5S system, including reducing time consumption, increasing safety, minimizing errors, reducing waste, and strengthening teamwork.

The event was graced by prominent guests including PK Rath (ED, SAIL Refractory), Mahesh Tripathi (Director, Chinmaya School), Manoj Kumar Dubey (Secretary QCFI), and Meenakshi Sabharwal.

Recently, Vedanta ESL Steel also secured a Gold Medal at the 5th CII National EHS Circle Competition, which featured 59 entries across seven categories from organizations nationwide, showcasing the excellence of its Safety and Digital team.
