Jamshedpur: The Vigyan Rath, an initiative designed to promote science-based education and research activities across India, made a stop at CSIR-National Metallurgical Laboratory (NML) in Jamshedpur.
The project, which is part of the “One Week One Theme” campaign, aims to spread awareness about scientific research and innovation.
The Vigyan Rath was launched on 14 February by Dr. N. Kalaiselvi, Secretary, Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR), Government of India, and Director General of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) from CSIR-IMMT Bhubaneswar.
This mobile science platform will travel through schools, colleges, and communities in Odisha, Jamshedpur, Jharkhand, and neighboring states over the next three weeks, sharing scientific knowledge and inspiring citizens to contribute to India’s progress.
The theme for this year’s Vigyan Rath is Research & Development, Mining, Minerals, Metals, and Materials (4M). Around 25 CSIR laboratories across India are collaborating under this theme to promote research and sustainable utilization of the country’s mineral and metal resources.
At the CSIR-NML Jamshedpur stop, Dr. Sandip Ghosh Chowdhury, Director of CSIR-NML, emphasized the importance of such initiatives in raising scientific awareness and showcasing CSIR’s contributions to nation-building. The Vigyan Rath was accompanied by a team of scientists and technical officers from CSIR-NML and CSIR-IMMT.
The Rath made visits to several educational institutions in Jamshedpur, including St. Peter’s English School, PM Shree Kendriya Vidyalaya, Tatanagar, Jamshedpur Women’s College, and Co-operative College, where it engaged with students. The students expressed great enthusiasm, appreciating the opportunity to interact with scientists and learn more about the innovative work being done in the fields of mining, minerals, and metallurgy.
The Vigyan Rath initiative aligns with the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, empowering individuals with knowledge to contribute to India’s future development.
