Youth from Uttarakhand Engage in Diverse Cultural Exchange Program in Dhanbad

Dhanbad: A youth contingent from Uttarakhand, participating in the Yuva Sangam cultural exchange program, visited Dhanbad as part of their educational and cultural tour. The group, composed of 17 boys and 14 girls, explored notable areas such as Belgarhia township to gain insight into the region’s socio-economic development and cultural heritage.

During their tour of Belgarhia, the youth engaged with residents displaced due to underground fires in Jharia. They observed the township’s amenities, including residential quarters, market complexes, and parks, developed under the Jharia Master Plan by the Jharia Rehabilitation Development Authority (JRDA), which houses 2,352 families.

The contingent also visited the IIT-ISM campus in Dhanbad, where they toured the Longwall Gallery to witness underground mining operations. This visit forms part of a broader initiative to foster mutual understanding and cultural exchange among India’s youth.

The Yuva Sangam journey commenced on January 16 with a welcome ceremony at IIT (ISM), followed by visits to Ranchi’s key cultural sites on January 17 and 18, includes Raj Bhavan and Pahadi Mandir.

Professor Sanjeev Anand Sahu, Yuva Sangam’s state nodal officer from IIT-ISM, mentioned that the group will next visit the Kusunda mining areas on January 20, and Maithon Dam and DVC hydroelectric power plant on January 21.

Yuva Sangam, now in its fifth phase, is a collaborative effort between IIT-ISM and IIT Roorkee, aimed at fostering cultural integration and knowledge exchange. The program initially saw Jharkhand’s youth visiting Uttarakhand in late 2024, and now Uttarakhand’s youth are reciprocating by experiencing Jharkhand’s culture, industries, and environment.
